This Week’s 3: The Power of Threes (From a Type B Mom)

As a mom to three boys, I’ve learned that juggling the many hats of work, family, and life can be overwhelming—unless, of course, you simplify things. And what better way to do that than with the magic number three? It’s my go-to, my sweet spot, my “manageable zone.” Whether it’s because I’ve got three kids or just because I love the symmetry, things in threes seem to make my life a little easier and a lot more fun.

As a laid-back, Type B mom, I’m not about the chaos of overly strict schedules or endless to-do lists. I find that balance comes from keeping things simple, focused, and—yes—broken down into three manageable pieces. So, each week, I’ll share This Week’s 3—three tips, items, or pieces of advice that help me survive and thrive as a busy working mom, all while embracing a more relaxed, Type B approach to life.

Here’s This Week’s 3 to get started:

1. Embrace the “Good Enough” Mindset As a Type B mom, I’ve let go of the pressure to be perfect. Instead, I focus on being good enough—whether it’s work, home, or even how clean the house is (spoiler alert: it’s never spotless). Setting realistic expectations for myself means I can enjoy the little moments more. Your house doesn’t need to look like a Pinterest board, and your kids don’t need to be in matching outfits all the time. Perfection isn’t the goal; happiness and balance are.

2. The Three-Item Rule for Packing When I’m getting out the door—whether it's for work, errands, or an impromptu playdate—I follow my "Three-Item Rule." This means I only pack three essential things: my work bag, the kids' snack bag, and something for myself (a water bottle, a book, or even a quick self-care item). Keeping it simple helps avoid the overwhelm of trying to remember everything and leaves me feeling more prepared and less frazzled.

3. Take Three Minutes for Yourself It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of everyday life, but I’ve learned the importance of taking a break, even if it’s just for three minutes. Whether it’s sipping a cup of tea, doing a quick breathing exercise, or stepping outside for a moment of peace, I find that three minutes of calm can reset my mind and help me tackle the next task with a fresh perspective. As busy as life gets, these mini-breaks help me recharge without needing a full-on retreat.

So, there you have it! This Week’s 3: three simple, Type B-approved tips to make your busy working mom life just a little bit easier. Remember, you don’t have to do it all, and you certainly don’t have to do it perfectly. Just keep it simple, take it one step at a time, and embrace the beauty of things in threes.
